The Atlanta Studies Network is an interdisciplinary group of scholars across area institutions including Emory University, Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Clark Atlanta University, Kennesaw State University, the Atlanta History Center, and the New Georgia Encyclopedia. Since 2013, the Atlanta Studies Network has organized an annual symposium each spring, tackling the social, cultural, economic, and environmental issues facing Atlanta. The 2025 theme is, “From Diaries to Data: The Unfolding Stories of Atlanta.”
I have the honor of serving as a panelist in the “History: Race and Gender” session at the 12th Annual Atlanta Studies Symposium, where I’ll present an excerpt from my dissertation, “One for the money, yes, sir, two for the show”: The ‘Elevators’ of Caste in Atlanta.
